Since I've been shaving, it's been with an electric razor. There were, of course, a smattering of times when I tried it's alternative, the (no adjective needed) razor, but obviously I was never seduced into the world of nicks, cuts, and blade subscriptions.
The electric razor I used most was purchased in the 80s. It's duct-taped together, smells funny, and barely works by this point. I've replaced it 3 times, and all 3 times liked job that the original did better than its replacement. It is, however, finally on its last legs, unable to do its job anymore.
So, with the failure of its electric brothers in mind, I tried today's hybrid, the battery-driven (no adjective needed) razor. It's different than what I'm used to, obviously. After the first trial I was surprised at how baby-skin-smooth I was, and without giving blood. Now, after the second trial, there is a hint blood, and the smoothness is interrupted by little patches of stubbly blackness, but still...
I don't like the idea of having to purchase the associated five dollar blades on a regular basis, but I have no faith that I will find the dream electric, like I once had.
And so I now wonder - is this the end of the electric age?
