Here it is, unvarnished.
Some of the birthday wishes did make me smile, and it struck me that it was the ones from the people most likely to read this that actually made me happiest.
I was in the car a few minutes ago, sitting in the driveway after returning from watching a movie alone. It wasn't a happy place to be.
I guess the only thing I really don't have in my life though is someone to be my significant other. I wish that weren't so significant to me.
I think it's human nature to focus on the areas where there is "something missing". If you had a significant other you'd maybe be worried about job or health or family instead...

Why does that someone sound familiar? If today is your birthday - and forgive my ignorance but I have just found you - then many happy returns from an imperfect stranger.
