Watching what I say.
One reflex learned in my years of under thumb marriage was to carefully edit every statement I made. Any failure to do so was a possible opportunity to be mentally beaten, but even so my guard was imperfect.
Conversely, despite no longer being in that relationship full-time, it's hard not to sometimes slip into the self-protective habit.
Moments when I realize that I do not have to censor myself still bring joy, however.
