Temperature

If one were to survey blogs at this time and compare them to a month ago, would the tone be more one of depression and loneliness now?

  1. Hmm that's an interesting thought, and probably true. I know I've felt pretty lonely lately, not sure if it has been reflected in my blog or not.

  2. I disagree. Most people have taken blogging breaks because they're happy and enjoying the holidays.

  3. So... happy people won't blog? Only sad people?

Depression generally leads to inactivity, malaise. If happy v. sad is a factor in likelihood of blogging, I would go the other way... but that wasn't my original question.

Depression is more common in the holidays in general, so I think blogs will reflect that.

  4. It's not that happy people don't blog, but sad people are more likely to blog. Most people write their best and find their voices when they are all sad and angsty. I know I've written about that before. Indiana wrote about it just last week.

  5. The tortured artist theory.

So your hypothesis is that there is indeed a change of mood in the blogosphere at this time of season, but the reason is that people are too happy to blog rather than that people are more depressed and showing it.

We need a concrete study here folks!
