So, as you can tell, my attempt to redefine my relationship with the musician as something more casual, because there are obligations in the less casual form of the relationship that I really dislike, has failed. Probably because I don't have the stomach to upset anyone. What a newsflash, eh?
On the other front, however, the prof's attempt to redefine our relationship is working quite well. We correspond less regularly, and my attempts to ask for a date have been rebuffed or ignored. It doesn't get much clearer than that unless one sticks a more definite label on it than "stepping back".
Ambiguity can give one a more positive feeling sometimes.
