"Nice" is simply the measure of how large the buffer is between what someone thinks and what they do.
"Nice" is also the measure of how a person acts when the buffer has been passed.
So someone can be quite nice until you get to know them well, and then the adjective changes.
This may outline a similarity between my ex-wife and the dark-haired girl, even though how its symptoms present (verb*) in each context differ.
*One side effect of the dark-haired girl's daily requests for me to review and correct her English correspondence is that I now automatically clarify word types.
