The return, and the returns

I returned late Wednesday night, and was glad to see that night that my oldest son had not only finally interacted with the female athletes that travelled on the bus with us, but he also managed to get a couple of phone numbers written on his arm.

The trip started and ended with some tension that had little to do with the main purpose of the trip. Beforehand, my ex-wife kept insisting I had asked her to drop us off at the bus, when I hadn't. Likewise, she insisted I had then asked her to pick us up at the end of the trip, when I hadn't. In both cases, I relied solely on my current girlfriend, the dark-haired girl, without the slightest interest in involved my ex, which naturally put the latter's nose out of joint.

Early yesterday evening, the dark-haired girl and I were at my place, preparing to leave for her former students' wedding. She had asked if it would be alright if she changed here after having her hair done at a nearby salon, to save time, an idea that I absolutely concurred with.

Originally my ex was to have picked up the boys mid-afternoon, which also made me happy, because it meant no worries about intersections between her travels and the dark-haired girl, but somehow that pickup got delayed. My ex came in to the house after supper, and when she heard a noise in the bathroom she made a bee-line for it, hunting the dark-haired girl down, extending her arm out like a cattle-prod, leaning forward, saying "Hello Auburn-haired girl, I'm Ex, pleased to meet you!"

The dark-haired girl's self-control and relative unfamiliarity with local customs allowed her to not be visibly taken aback by my ex's standard in-your-face approach, much to my relieved amazement. After the boys and their mother left, we quickly changed, and left.

The wedding itself was an hour outside of the city, lake-side, and couldn't have been better except perhaps with the addition of citronella to ward off the swarms of mosquitos. It was picturesque, the weather beautiful, and there was even someone I knew there besides the dark-haired girl. Apparently one of my teammates' son was also one of her former students.

The picturesque setting for the wedding.

The ceremony was short and sweet, and we returned to the city, exhausted and ready for bed. We didn't sleep terribly well, without any good reason, unfortunately, and ended up not getting up until the afternoon. We switched locations, heading over to her place to watch the Olympic opening ceremonies, but when 11pm rolled around, I cut my visit short, coming home in the hope of finally catching up on sleep after the arduous trip earlier in the week.
