Today a guy who makes his living gathering cardboard off the street gave me directions... More accurately, he walked me three of the five blocks, and showed me a shortcut through a long condemned building and alleyway. His English was excellent and he said that earlier in life he had traveled internationally. He gave me brief stories about the area.
It was interesting assistance from a guy most people would have crossed the street to avoid interacting with... A loss of a pleasant experience on their part.
