Sometimes being forthright can cause trouble, but not being forthright delays and amplifies that trouble.
Ladies, if I may recommend something from this male's perspective. Even if the father isn't someone you plan on spending your life with, but also isn't a complete ass, please consider letting him know his status is changing from unsiring to siring. Even if he lives a thousand miles from you it is still possible that someone will notice your expectant state and pass that information along.
Just my two cents.
