(her) "Are the kids at my house?"
(me) "No...?"
(her) "Because I just got a phone call from my house."
(me) "Ok..."
(her) "Are you sure they're not there?"
(me) "Yes... they've been here all day. Maybe the dog knocked the phone off the hook and pressed redial?"
(her) "You'd better go check in case something's going on there."
(me) "Ok... I guess so..."
...later...
(her) "What's going on there?"
(me) "No tracks around the house, so no one was here, no break-in, alarm on... Phones were on-hook... Redial on both phones showed a number different than yours... but the dog did take a crap on the kitchen floor."
(her) "Can you clean that up? And let her outside for awhile?"
(me) "I guess so... I don't think she needs to go anymore..."
The excuse seems a little... paper thin...
