Today's plan was work, work, work. I was in the middle of a half hour phone call with an American client when my ex phoned. And phoned. I finally put the client on hold, and picked up the other line, quickly explaining that I was with a client at the moment and would call her back in 15 minutes. Which wasn't good enough. :-)
It seems the boys hadn't checked in with her this morning after she left for work. Which didn't cause me to run out screaming into the streets in panic. Some may find my attitude callous, but please keep in mind that I've been through years of drama, and not only do I trust my sons, but I also know that the chances of them having met their demise this morning are slim.
A few minutes later she left a message telling me that she had sent a friend over to check on the boys. With the tone of voice that just stressed me. The tightened chest, the anxiousness. The tone of voice that says why the hell aren't you over there ten minutes before she even called. See, I'm not entirely immune to the drama as much as I should be.
So... the boys are fine, naturally. They were just playing outside.
The domino effect can wreck a good day so easily. But, we shall recover.
